Mashonaland East, Zimbabwe, June 15, 2012 – A new development initiative was launched in the Zimbabwean town of Mashonaland East on Wednesday as the country looks to develop volleyball at the grassroots level.

The Great Zimbabwe Talent was officially unveiled at Masarakufa Secondary School where the Mudzi District Centre of Excellence is housed.

The centre, located more than 200km east of the capital Harare, is the first of 74 district chapters to be launched over the next 13 weeks.

Project director and Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) vice-president Erasmus Mupukuta launched the first rural District centre near the border with Mozambique amid pomp and fanfare. Project equipment consisting of balls, nets, scales, cones, stop watches, videos and stationery were handed over to the head of the school Mr. Matekenya and Headman Nyamasekwere.

The brief ceremony was attended by the ZVA Executive member Frank Batsirayi, Provincial Volleyball representatives, District Education Officers, area councillors, National Association of Primary School Heads, school heads, coaches and community leaders and members.
