Huge crowds pack the Eliots Beach court in Chennai to watch the finals of the Chennai Challenger Beach Volleyball Championship when the city last hosted it in 2008
| New Dehli, September 14, 2010 - India will host the 2010 FIVB Chennai Challenger Beach Volleyball Championship from September 27 to October 2 in Marina Beach and Eliots Beach in Chennai, India.
According to the organizers, the main Draw will be held from September 29 to October 2 with 32 men’s teams and 24 women ‘s teams participating. The qualification tournament will be held on September 28 The prize money for men is $40,000 and for women, $30,000
The promoter, Marina beach Volleyball Club, offers accommodation and three meals per day for Main Draw and Qualification Tournament teams The promoter also offers travel subsidy for Main Draw teams.
Two men’s and women teams from each national federation are eligible to participate the event with the host country sending three teams each for men and women. The teams that are not in the world rankings list should play the Qualification matches to qualify for the main draw. However, the teams on the FIVB World Ranking from 1 to 24 are not eligible to participate.
India hosted the BSNL-FIVB Chennai Challenger Beach Volleyball championship from July 17 to 20, 2008, with Thailand’s Tomas Sannak and Tenpaksee taking the women’s title and Brazil’s duo Tomas Klepper and Luizao winning the men’s gold medal.
