Germany equal best result in World League

 
Germany returned to the FIVB World League for the first time since 2003 and duly matched their best place finish at the event
Lausanne, Switzerland, July 20, 2010 – Germany matched their best efforts in the FIVB World League with their ninth place finish in this year’s competition following their return to the tournament for the first time since 2003.

The European side returned to this year’s tournament following a seven year hiatus and were duly rewarded with three victories over Poland and four over Argentina. They qualified for the competition with wins over Mexico and Venezuela.

Bulgaria narrowly missed out on a place in the Final Round as they finished seventh, followed closely by Olympic champions and 2008 World League winners USA.

Poland, who finished fourth in the 2005 tournament, finished 10th with 1996 champions the Netherlands in 11th, France failing to match their 2006 silver medal in 12th, Finland in 13th, Egypt dropping to 14th after three 13th place finishes, China in 15th with their worst result and South Korea in 16th.

The final six ranking is set to be decided over the next few days in Cordoba, Argentina as the Final Round prepares to kick off.
