Serbia holds new "Balls for Victory" event

Over 2,200 pupils were at the event held by the Volleyball Federation of Serbia
Belgrade, Serbia, June 11, 2010 - The Volleyball Federation of Serbia continued its “Volleyball Tomorrow – Balls for Victory” initiative, aiming to supply all elementary schools in Serbia with Mikasa Volleyballs, at the end of May with another event held in the Crystal Sport Hall in Zrenjanin, in front of 2,200 pupils.

The programme is supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the Serbian Government and children from over 450 elementary schools across the country took part in the second event.

Pupils were greeted by Mrs. Tanja Dulovic, Prefect of Mid-Banat district, Mr. Aleksandar Marton, President of the Assembly in the City of Zrenjanin, Mrs. Petra Stangl, Executive Director in the Marketing Department of the Vip mobile, who are supporting the initiative, Mr. Vladimir Grbic, Serbia Volleyball star and member of the FIVB Sports Development Commission and Mr. Aleksandar Boricic, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia at a special ceremony on May 31.

Additionally pupils from Jovan Ducic from Klek, Vuk Karadzic and Dositej Obradovic from Zrenjanin, and Sveti Sava from Zitiste took part in matches.

“If I were to return to my youth, and having in mind that we played with rubber balls outdoor back then, it is clear to me that this kind of support for our kids is very valuable to them,” Mr. Vladimir Grbic said at the event. “We have to try to do our best to show them the right path, to keep them away from the streets and vices, and to encourage them to practice sports.”
