Flic en Flac, Mauritius, April 13,
2012 - Former Olympians Angola as well as outsiders Congo Brazzaville
secured their way to the semifinal of the 2012 CAVB Men’s Continental
Cup finals at Flic en Flac beach in Mauritius on Friday following their
thrilling victories over Egypt and hosts Mauritius in the opening day.
Angola meets top-seeded South
Africa in an exciting semifinal on Saturday, while Congo Brazzaville
faces second seeded Nigeria in the other semis. Meanwhile the losers
Egypt line up against Mauritius for the fifth and sixth positions.
Congo needed a long Marathon of
five matches to take over hosts Mauritius in a match that kept
spectators on their toes for two hours.
The Congo pairing of
Ngoteni/Mandembo started the match with a soaring 66 minutes win over
Louise/Sophie 2-1 (22-20, 21-13, 15-11).
Mauritius team 2, Moonisamy/Laurette responded with a win over Nakavoua /Ambyero 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) to draw 1-1.
After a great fight Congo won the golden set narrowly 22-20 to qualify to the semis.
Meanwhile Egypt started their
match against Angola aggressively winning the first match 2-1(11-21,
22:20, 15:13) when the pair of Metwally/Shahin defeated the Sequeria
brothers.
Angola’s Abreu/Silva secured two
successive victories over Okasha/Atta 2-1 (12-21 , 21-16 , 15-10) and
Metwally/Shahin 2-0 (21-18, 21-16).
