Young Neslihan Demir as long been regarded as Turkey’s
version of the Russian star player Lioubov Chachkova and
the World Cup is expected to be another platform for the
19-year-old to show off all her talented skills.
Despite her age, Demir’s spikes are already so feared by
opponents that she is variously nicknamed "the
Sledgehammer" and "the Rocket." She joined Yesilyurt as
a 14-year-old, and then transferred to Vakifbank before
returning to Yesilyurt.
Demir has now played over 50 games for Turkey at
different levels and continues to the lead the way with
her powerful offensive game, which is all the more
impressive considering she does not have full use of her
right arm.
