Without losing one match USA advances to the second round. They US team celebrated a straight sets victory against Kenya, the team that will leave the Women's World Championship without a victory. Again, the US team had to replace injured libero Stacy Sykora by Tara Cross-Battle. At the first technical time-out of the first set, USA led by three points (8-5). Kenya improved its performance and even profited from reception mistakes of their opponent (10-10). However, the US then served better and took the lead to 16-12, capitalised on their advantage in the blocking due to their height and won the first set 25-19. Kenya put up a great fight at the beginning of the second set in front of the crowds at "erdgas arena". Danielle Scott was responsible for their lead at the first technical time-out (8-7). The US players, average 15 cm taller than the Kenyian players, cruised through the match (16-12) and showed superior playing skills. Especially in the middle blocks of Prikeba Phipps, Danielle Scott and Tayyiba Haneef were fantastic (25-17). At the beginning of the third set the US team served better and clearly led 8-3 at the first technical time-out. Point by point the US widened the gap (16-8). The "underdogs" from Kenya continued to put up a great fight but they did not have the slightest chance against the power-play of the US team who won the third set clearly 25-13. US Tayyiba Haneef was the best scorer of the match with 15 points.
