| The new era commenced in 1984 when the FIVB moved
from Paris to Lausanne, Switzerland, and elected a new
President, who envisaged a marketing strategy with new competitions aimed at consolidating FIVB's brand identity and world-class profile.
As a result, FIVB is now the largest sports organisation in the world in
terms of its 220 member National Federations, operating at continental level through
five confederations based in Africa, Asia, Europe, North & Central America and South America. Under FIVB guidance, these entities provide opportunities to Volleyball and Beach Volleyball event organisers, sponsors, TV broadcasters
and more than 500 million participating athletes worldwide.
