Brasilia, Brazil, April 15, 2011 – Two-time FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch world champion Adriana Behar of Brazil said she is expecting the fight for top spot at the women's Brasilia Open to be as tight as ever in her blog entry for the FIVB website.
The two-time Olympic silver medallist at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, who also clinched six Tour titles, also explained that the first event on the calendar was one of the most important, with teams watching each other closely to see if any have changed their style from last year.
"Competition for the podium places is going to be tight, as always," Adriana says. "Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor returning is huge news and very important for the game. I expect they will be one of the teams to be wary of this year. Additionally, the women's pairs from China are equally as hard to play against. They always have a lot of young players and you are never quite sure what they will bring to the table. They are always a surprise.
"Of course last year’s champions Juliana and Larissa will be among the favourites as well. They and Antonelli and Talita, who will be just as tough to face, have been training really hard over the last few months and will want to begin well."
The new blog can be read here and will be added to throughout the season by numerous other former players and personalities from the sport. The Brasilia Open is the first event on the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour and begins this Sunday, running from April 17-23.
