Stunning
beaches, warm friendly people and mythological tales are
all part of the wonder and splendour that will greet the
top men’s international Beach Volleyball players and
their fans when the Swatch-FIVB World Tour arrives in
the popular resort town of Budva on the coast of Serbia
and Montenegro.
The people of Serbia and Montenegro, who have always
been passionate about all things Volleyball, were
delighted to discover that the Swatch – FIVB World Tour
would be making a stop in the beautiful town of Budva.
An old and mythological place, Budva will prove a
perfect host for the athletes of the Beach Volleyball
circuit who will arrive in town with hopes of claiming a
chunk of the $180,000 prize money on offer.
According to Greek mythology, Cadmo, the son of
Phoenician King Agenon, founded the town of Budva after
being expelled from Thebes. Shortly after his expulsion,
young Cadmo arrived by an ox-drawn car into the area now
known as Budva and was so enchanted by its beauty that
he decided to establish a town there.
This
is the first time that the World Tour arrives in Serbia
and Montenegro and the selection of the Budva beaches
was a shrewd choice by event organizers. With its Old
Town situated on a small island that was once linked to
the mainland by a sandbar, this picturesque place
provides some beautiful scenery and enchanting streets
which inspire locals and visitors alike.
Between May 26 – 30 of this year, the locals of Budva
will welcome the Gods of Beach Volleyball to their town
and they will be expecting to witness plenty of miracles
down on the golden sands; they shan’t be disappointed.
