Rome, Italy, June 19 – China’s Chen Xue and Xi Zhang will leave the FIVB Swatch World Championships Rome 2011 powered by smart with bronze medals hanging round their necks and a determination to add further medals to their growing collection.
The number eight seeds beat the women’s competition’s surprise package of Hana Klapalova and Lenka Hajeckova from the Czech Republic.
They won 21-14, 21-12 to add the world bronze to the Olympic bronze they won in 2008.
“We’re very excited,” Zhang said. “Yesterday we lost and we didn’t play well but we came back and we played better than yesterday and we played well.”
So far 2011 hasn’t been a stellar year for the 26-year-old Zhang and 22-year-old Xue. Their best result on the FIVB Swatch World Tour was second at the Olympic Bay Sanya Open, something Zhang said the duo are desperate to improve on.
“The win here gave us a good feeling, so I want to win again, again and again,” she said.
